Start a business in Morocco

How to start a business in Tangier and northern Morocco: one-stop shop, online company registration via OMPIC, legal forms (SARL, SA, SAS) and real costs — the practical guide.

Setting up a company in Morocco has never been simpler: formalities once scattered across six administrations are now concentrated at the regional investment centre’s one-stop shop and, since 2023, handled online through the national electronic company-creation platform operated by OMPIC. In this region, average incorporation time is about 48 hours for a complete file.

Where to incorporate

  • Online — the OMPIC electronic platform (mandatory channel for commercial companies): filing, registration and legal publicity are fully digital;
  • At the one-stop shop of the CRI Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, where all the relevant administrations are represented;
  • At provincial branches in Tetouan, Al Hoceima and Larache.

Choosing a legal form

Form Minimum capital Best for
SARL (LLC) No legal minimum The default choice — over 90% of incorporations: SMEs, subsidiaries, family ventures
SA (PLC) MAD 300,000 (3M if publicly traded) Large projects, multiple shareholders, capital markets
SAS Set freely in the bylaws Joint ventures and group subsidiaries needing flexible governance
Branch — Direct establishment of a foreign company
Auto-entrepreneur — Individual services or trade under revenue caps

The route, step by step

Name certificate, bylaws, capital deposit, registration, trade register, tax ID, social security and legal publicity: the full sequence is detailed on the procedures page, and the single form files your declarations with every administration at once.

What it costs

  • Negative certificate (name reservation): a few hundred dirhams;
  • Registration duty: 1% of capital (minimum MAD 1,000) on cash contributions;
  • Legal publicity: roughly MAD 1,000–2,000;
  • Professional fees (accounting firm, notary) depending on complexity.

Tip. For an industrial or tourism project, talk to the regional investment centre before incorporating: land, permits and investment-charter premiums are negotiated upstream.
